Easy Refill Reminders Allow Patients, Caregivers More Control

EZ Fill, a new feature from AllianceRx Walgreens Pharmacy, lets patients and caregivers take the task of refilling prescriptions into their own hands.

“Patients told us they want to refill prescriptions without having to get on the phone,” says Tracey James, RPh, chief operating officer.

Managing a chronic condition or rare disease can be all-consuming – for patients and caregivers. That’s why we are continually innovating our tools and solutions to make it easier to manage prescriptions.

“EZ Fill is prompted by a text or email message, whichever the patient prefers,” says Jacarri Moore, manager of patient engagement strategy. “Patients don’t need to log on or create a new account, just authenticate, and follow the prompts.”

How EZ Fill works:

1. Seven to 10 days before a scheduled refill, a message prompts the patient/caregiver to schedule an order via a personalized web app experience.

2. The patient/caregiver can confirm prescription details, health information, request a callback from a pharmacist, select a payment method, and provide a shipping address and delivery date, in less than 60 seconds.

3. Once the order details are submitted, the patient/caregiver may need to complete a digital clinical assessment or may request a care team check-in.

“It’s clear patients and caregivers find this process easy. Nearly 9 out of 10 patients or caregivers completed the process entirely on their own,” says James. “And we’ve received very positive, direct patient feedback.”

EZ Fill is a recent addition to the AllianceRx Walgreens Pharmacy’s digital solutions. Our teams continue developing new engagement models and technology advancements to make the patient experience easier and more convenient.

“Meeting patients on their terms translates to timely, customized and relevant clinical engagements,” says James. “We’ve raised the bar with self-service tools that empower patients and caregivers to become more active in care.”
