How We Support Cystic Fibrosis Caregivers
More than 75% of cystic fibrosis (CF) patients are diagnosed by the time they are two.* That means from an early age, ongoing treatment and support are essential for living a happier and healthier life. Here are five ways our specialty pharmacy provides ongoing care to assist both patients and their caregivers.
1. Customized patient and caregiver support. At AllianceRx Walgreens Pharmacy, we understand every patient has different requirements at different times during their CF journey. We also know daily routines change frequently — especially for children — which can affect treatment concerns such as medication compliance. Our goal is to counsel patients (and caregivers) accordingly.
2. Streamlined medication management. To help ease the burden of managing multiple prescriptions, we can fill the patient’s complete medication list — including non-specialty drugs (as allowed by insurance). Sure, it’s a minor convenience, but it’s also one less thing to stress about.
3. Medication and adherence counseling. We offer comprehensive prescription counseling at the start of a new medication. This includes education on dosing, order of therapies, using a nebulizer, inhalation techniques and granules preparation. Counseling is provided on the importance of adherence while addressing any specific barriers to taking their prescriptions. Tips for managing specific medication side-effects are also discussed with patients and caregivers.
4. Condition education. We are proud to deliver ongoing condition-based education which includes reinforcing infection control guidelines, emphasizing the importance of vaccinations and ensuring long-term nutrition. Additionally, educational booklets focusing on specialty medications and CF are available on our website.
5. Online digital tools. By setting up an online account, patients and caregivers have access to a variety of time-saving features to manage prescriptions. Many CF medications can be refilled online without having to call us. We provide clinical support along the way as needed — how and when it’s convenient. And all your family’s medications can be managed from this single account.
