Planning for 2023: Steps to Ensure a Smooth Transition Into The New Benefit Year

Did you know adults find managing their prescriptions almost as hard as doing their taxes? According to a 2018 survey conducted by AllianceRx Walgreens Pharmacy, frustration in understanding what prescriptions an insurance benefit will cover is similar to other complicated tasks such as doing taxes or setting up an internet connection. The good news is there are steps you can take now to avoid issues and ensure timely delivery of your refills into the new year.  
 

• Use of online tools: Create an online account at AllianceRxWP.com to help you manage your medication refills online.  
 

• Opt in for text updates: Work with your AllianceRx Walgreens Pharmacy team to opt into text alerts that will help keep you informed on the progress of your refills. On your next call with the AllianceRx Walgreens Pharmacy care team, make sure we have your consent on file to receive texts or email updates.  
 

• Check on refills: Does your medication(s) have refills? Is there an opportunity now to work with your doctor to ensure you have refills on all your medications?  
 

• Submit new insurance: If you know you have a change to your insurance plan, submit the new insurance to the AllianceRx Walgreens Pharmacy team as soon as possible to help prevent delays during the refill process.  
 

• Prior Authorization: If you have new insurance, check with your AllianceRx Walgreens Pharmacy team to see if the medication requires a prior authorization (often referred to as a PA); if it does, provide all of your insurance information as soon as possible. 
 

• Re-enroll: If you have a secondary insurance such as a manufacturer co-pay card, foundational assistance or you are registered in a patient assistance program that requires re-enrollment, now is the time to start the process. Re-enrolling in the program before the new calendar year will help ensure a smoother first fill in 2023 and help prevent delays with refilling your medication. 
 

• Confirmation: Confirm your address and contact information. Ensuring we have the most current contact information will allow our care team to reach you quicker.
