Women’s History Month: Celebrating Women Leaders Like Kathryn Broze

Women’s History Month, held during March since 1981, reflects on the often-overlooked contributions of women to U.S. history. From Abigail Adams to Susan B. Anthony, Sojourner Truth to Rosa Parks, the timeline of women’s history milestones stretches back to the founding of the U.S.

At AllianceRx Walgreens Pharmacy, women make up more than half of the leaders in our organization. Kathryn Broze, PharmD, CSP, lead staff pharmacist, is one of these leaders – in fact, she was nominated by her peers for our company’s Excellence in Values awards last fall and took home the company’s top honor – the Pinnacle Award. In her nomination, a colleague described Kathryn as “an exceptional, trusted, and reliable leader, not only in Frisco, but across the enterprise.”

Kathryn received our company’s Pinnacle Award in 2022, honoring the “best of the best” team members who not only live our values each day  but strive for more.

Kathryn says Women’s History Month is the perfect time to reflect and commemorate women’s successes over the years. She offers the following thoughts about women and leadership:

Who inspires you?
“Although I’ve had several mentors over the years, my most cherished female mentor is my mother, Kathleen,” Kathryn says. “Alongside my father, Greg, she has taught me the importance of so many things in life: working hard, thinking analytically (as well as optimistically), practicing selflessness, showing empathy, being compassionate towards others, and most of all – never giving up.”

Kathryn’s mother previously served as the director of student development and orientation at a local university and continues to serve the public in numerous organizations and various roles. “I have learned loads from her on how to lead and effectively collaborate within an organization. I aspire to be as distinguished and successful as her one day,” she says.

Best Advice You’ve Received
“The best advice I received from a female mentor was to lead by example in addition to staying positive and keeping my head held high, no matter what challenges or doubts arise,” Kathryn says.

Advice for Other Young Women
Kathryn offers the following advice to other young women working toward success: “Strive for excellence (not perfection), accept the challenges and setbacks that will inevitably come along the way, and always believe in yourself.”
